Wild Card Champions

You think David Ortiz is disappointed about winning the Wild Card instead of the AL East? Well, maybe. But he had an odd way of showing it. Here's his response to Jayson Stark after he was informed that the only difference between winning the division and the wild card was that his team was going to play Chicago instead of Anaheim:

"I think it's a point good, bro," said David Ortiz on Sunday. "California wears me out. It's like going to Japan, man."

I can picture David Ortiz and Jayson Stark bro-ing down over a pitcher at the Cask and Flagon...

Speaking of taking the wildcard, is there a story behind Manny running around in a Guerrero jersey after Sunday's win?

Possibly. Where did you find this information?

It was on TV; everyone ran out onto the field to celebrate and there was Manny Being Manny. I'll see if I can dig up a screen cap.

Ah. If I'm not mistaken, that jersey belongs to Ino Guererro, the guy the Red Sox have on the payroll as a coach simply because he's friends with Manny and supposedly keeps him in check.

Ahh, that makes much more sense than a shout-out to Vladimir. I find the fact that Manny has, for lack of better terms, an "attitude trainer" hilarious, though.

What's especially funny is that he's not even listed on the Red Sox homepage on the coaching staff. They didn't even come up with some meaningless title for him. It's like they're just saying "hey, he's Manny's friend, we let him hang out, it's cool."
